Water Color Butterfly

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Lots of traveling for me this week, so I am posting earlier in the day today and on Thursday. Hopefully this doesn’t mess with everyone’s schedule! I am also holding back on the lizard prints until next week as it is harder for me to get them all setup on the schedule I am working for this client. I apologize about the pause if you were really looking forward to more adorable lizards!
I have this beautiful fake plant in my home office, and in it I stuck my friend’s butterfly ornament that she designed this past year. It really is beautiful, and I like being able to look at it. I really really wanted to draw it and give it a little of my flair.
So I did! In the program i use (infinite painter) there are tons of water color brushes that I have never used. I don’t know if I was worried about using them or if I am too much of a control freak to do water colors normally, but I decided to give them a chance.
That would be what caused me the most struggle with this piece. Wasn’t drawing out each leaf as I wanted or redesigning the butterfly so that it looks like it landed on the mini shrub. It was 100% figuring out how the brushes worked.
I really like the end design though, and I plan on using more of the brushes that I have shied away from in the past.
I didn’t really work on this with all of you in mind, but I would like to share it with you if you would like it printed on something, as I do with almost all of my work now.

Check out the stores here for Redbubble and here for Society6 for this piece.

Until next time, safe travels and good luck on all of your endeavors,
-The Sonne Faun
